5 day: ICON Summer School 2019

The summer school provided the students with opportunities to develop their knowledge of cutting-edge research and technologies via masterclasses with acknowledged experts in their field and to take part in a series of facilitated discussions and fun activities to encourage the social cohesion of the group, networking and pathways to further research.

We were delighted that Professor Sahajwalla, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Materials Research & Technology (SMaRT@UNSW), Professor Koh Chan Ghee, Director of the Lloyd's Register Foundation Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk and Dr Peiyuan Qin from the Global Big Data Technologies Centre gave keynotes.

ICON theme leads Professors Keevil, Nogaret and Wang led interactive sessions in the areas of nanotechnology & risk, sensors and data management.

Know Innovation facilitators, David Lomas and Toby Scott, introduced the students to process that was utilised in combination with the grand challenges identified by the Foundation to develop draft research proposals.

We were also delighted that Jeevarathinam Ravikumar, who heads LR's Global Technology Centre in Singapore focusing on digital transformation and digital innovation, joined us to provide an interesting industrial perspective.

Videos from the event are available under the videos tab.
